Reading Corners and Book Nooks

via Ohdeedoh
What a great way to encourage reading! Book nooks are cozy, comfy little places that kids will love to sit and quietly read. I remember because as a child I built one myself in my bedroom closet - a bucket in the back corner with a pillow on it, and with the closet light on I could shut the door and enter my own little world.

All you really need is a light and a place to sit, but if you can add in some book storage and a place to put snacks and drinks, the reading nook will be a complete retreat.

It can be something fancy, like above, but it doesn't have to be. It could be a pile of pillows in the corner:

You can also convert a closet into a nook, with a built-in bench and storage:

Or it could be built under a stair case:

We used to have a small couch in my daughter's first nursery, but now the two girls share a room, and the couch was... gross anyway:

We just read on the living room couch now, but I love the idea of a designated reading space. We might have one again.

Where do your little ones read? Do you have a reading corner or book nook?
